Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery

In April 2003 Patt Levine underwent “Lap-Band” gastric surgery, one of the primary bariatric surgeries being widely practiced today. As a lifelong foodie, she was expecting the worst when her surgeon's nutritionist handed her dietary guidelines to follow post-surgery, and she was right. With her decades of cooking skills, she immediately set out to devise low-fat dishes that would be just as delicious pureed and chopped as they would be served whole. As an added problem, she wanted to cook for her husband at the same time. This first-ever cookbook for the hundreds of thousands who are lining up for bariatric bypass surgery is proof that it can be done. With collaborator Michele Bontempo-Saray, the author has created 125 recipes that contain no added sugar, are very low in fat, and get their carbohydrates almost exclusively from fruits and vegetables. Each recipe includes specific guidelines for preparation of the dish for every stage of the eating programs for Lap-Band, gastric bypass, and Biliopancreatric Diversion Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS) patients, as well as suggestions for sharing meals with those who have not gone through gastric surgery. Creative recipes cover every meal and food—breakfast and brunch, soups, vegetables, main courses, and sweet indulgences.

Steve had been overweight all his life. In fact, he weighed more than 100 pounds in the first grade! After playing football during high school and college, he vowed never to exercise or run laps again. That was one promise he kept, ballooning to 340 pounds and staying there for years. Driven by his declining health, Steve began to study Scripture. He discovered four keys to unlock the door to health and fitness:1. Dedication: Honoring God with Your Body2. Inspiration: Motivating Yourself for Change3. Eat and Exercise: Managing Your Habits4. He shows how you can change your life forever by committing your body to God's glory. One of the biggest reasons most people fail on traditional diet plans is that they are required to eat what the plan tells them to eat. Bod4God helps you craft your own personal plan that you will follow gladly for the rest of your life. In addition, you'll find out how your local church can impact the health of your entire community by hosting “Losing to Live” events, such as weight-loss competitions and team-driven fitness campaigns. LA Shape Diet: The 14-Day Total Weight Loss Plan

From one of today's most respected diet and nutrition experts: a 14–day weight loss plan designed to help you change your shape for life using a new breakthrough personalized protein prescription that has worked for thousands of his patients. Dr. David Heber's groundbreaking book What Color Is Your Diet? introduced us to the Color Code–building a healthy diet based on colorful fruits and vegetables. His new book, The LA Shape Diet, combines the sound nutritional basis of the Color Code with his newest research from the UCLA Center for Nutrition, which shows you how to analyse your body shape, personal protein needs, and metabolism and not only lose weight–but also change your body shape. This has major appeal to the millions of Americans who may be able to lose weight but are still dissatisfied with the look of their bodies–and end up gaining the weight back anyway.Dr. Heber maintains that everyone is born with a particular shape and that this shape makes a huge difference in how you should approach weight loss. Dr. Heber teaches the difference between the shape you can change and the shape you cannot, and how to do this with the right amount of dietary protein. Based on over 3500 measurements made by his researchers at UCLA, Dr. Heber has come up with tables that estimate how much protein you need in your diet at a given height and weight, and how many calories you should consume every day. Then Dr. Heber helps you build your own ideal diet, starting with protein, then 7 colorful servings of fruits and vegetables (providing 25 grams of filling fiber), and finally whole grains. Dr. Heber explains not only glycemic index (how fast blood sugar goes up) but glycemic load (glycemic index + how much carbohydrate a food provides), which determines how a particular food affects the overall diet. He groups foods into four tables to make it easy for readers to navigate their dinner table. In a world of dietary fads and "one size fits all" pseudo–miracle diets, The LA Shape Diet is the most effective, easy–to–follow, scientifically sound dietary plan you'll find
