Weight loss diet was the largest segment in the market. Its growth is primarily triggered by new product launches, increasing consumer awareness of diet food and beverages, increasing number of diabetic patients, and aggressive marketing strategies adopted by market players. Low calorie beverages (carbonated and non-carbonated), and slimmer waters/natural mineral salt drinks showcase vast opportunities for key players in the market. The herbal/green market is growing at a very fast pace in Asian countries, especially in China.

4 Reasons Running is Best for Weight Loss

Any exercise is good exercise, but when it comes to losing weight, it's hard to beat running. After all, running is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories and get fit without having to restrict your diet. If you're already a runner, keep on keepin' on. If you're not a runner yet but interested in losing weight, here are four reasons running can be the best exercise for weight loss.

1. Running works even when you're at rest. High-intensity exercise like running stimulates more "afterburn" than low-intensity exercise. That is, even when comparing running with walking the same distance, studies find that running will lead to greater weight loss, most likely because your resting energy expenditure stays elevated after you run. In a long-term comparison study of runners and walkers, calories burned through running led to 90% more weight loss than calories burned through walking.

PLUS: The Truth About Running vs. Walking for Weight Loss

2. Running is time-efficient. Even if the myth that running a mile and walking a mile burn the same number of calories were true, running is a considerably faster way to burn those calories. Most people can run two or three times as far as they can walk in a given amount of time. At the other end of the spectrum, super-intense but short workouts, such as the "Scientific 7-minute Workout" from the Human Performance Institute, may burn more calories....

The Champagne Diet: Could This Be The Weight Loss Method For You?

Imagine living a life filled with deliciously decadent, healthy meals and a nightly champagne toast? Imagine loving your body and eating for your health – as opposed to a number on the scale? It’s completely possible. Here, lifestyle and wellness coach Cara Alwill Leyba shows you how.

As a woman who has struggled with her weight for most of her life, I know what it’s like to feel frustrated with fad diets. I’ve done them all: Atkins, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers; I’ve even tried eating like a French woman and let me tell you, I just end up hoarding blocks of cheese and drinking a bottle of wine for dinner. Portion control was never my thing.

It wasn’t until a good friend suggested I ditch the idea of 'diets' and start eating healthy, nutritious foods (mostly organic and GMO-free). She recommended a mainly vegetarian diet filled with fresh vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains and the occasional piece of fish. Processed, chemical-laden foods were a no-no. When I asked her if alcohol was on the menu she replied: 'Of course, just drink champagne!' Champagne has approximately 90 calories per glass, making it one of the lights drinks available. I was in, and 'The Champagne Diet' was born.
Along with my healthy new food regime and nightly glass of champagne, I chose something to toast to at night; specifically something I was proud of. Whether it was an accomplishment at work, or the fact that I made it to the gym that day, I raised my glass and began celebrating myself on a regular basis.

Think diet soda means weight loss? Think again

Diet soda, it turns out, may not be the panacea for weight loss that we all thought — and many hoped — it was.

In fact, a Purdue University study has found that diet sodas may be linked to a number of health problems from obesity to diabetes to heart disease, just like their more sugary counterparts.

Susie Swithers, a professor of psychological sciences and a behavioral neuroscientist, reviewed a number of recent studies looking at whether drinking diet pop over the long-term increases the likelihood that a person will overeat, gain weight and then develop other health problems.

One large study found that people who drank artificially sweetened soda were more likely to experience weight gain than those who drank non-diet soda. Others found those who drank diet soda had twice the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, often a precursor to cardiovascular disease, than those who abstained.

From extra skin under the arms to a hanging pouch around the stomach, loose skin can pose an embarrassing problem, especially if weight loss has been achieved rapidly.

Why Skin Gets Loose After Weight Loss
Since it has to stretch as we move, grow, and--as in the case of weight loss-- shrink, skin is an incredibly elastic living organ. Yes, that’s right, skin is not just one big piece of rubber that covers the entire body, but is instead an organ,

The 5:2 Diet: 'My children force-fed me to stop my mood swings'

Devotees claim the Fast Diet is an easy way to lose 2lbs a week. So why did it leave Lucy Cavendish tetchy and exhausted?

Everyone I know is on the Fast Diet, the 5:2, intermittent fasting… call it what you will. I can barely go anywhere without people talking about it.
As they will tell you, you eat anything you want for five days of the week, and diet for two. This means fewer than 500 calories a day (600 for men) for two non-consecutive days a week. It has been billed as the diet that anyone can do. After all, goes the theory, how hard can it be to watch what you eat and drink two days a week when you can eat and drink whatever you like the other five?
Not since the days of Atkins has an “ultimate diet” been taken up by so many people. I know as many men as women who are on it, and all claim to be losing around 2lb a week, giving them a steady weight loss over the months as they adjust to it.
The joy of it is its simplicity. The Atkins Diet, which became popular in the late 1990s, was tricky and no fun. All we did was eat endless protein, which made our breath smell. Robert Atkins, the American physician behind it, had a heart attack in 2002, leading many of his critics to suggest the high levels of saturated fat the diet encourages were to blame.
A decade later, the Dukan became the diet de nos jours. Billed as the weight-loss plan.....

Want to lose weight? Exercise, skip dinner

The late author and nutritionist Adelle Davis’ famous health tip—“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”—has gained ground anew, thanks to a new study by researchers from the Czech Republic.
The study, presented during the American Diabetes Association’s scientific session in Chicago last month, revealed that eating two large meals early and skipping dinner may result in significant weight loss than consuming six small meals with the same nutritional and calorie content.
The researchers from the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine in Prague followed 54 patients with type 2 diabetes for six months. The study participants were randomly split into two groups. For the first three months, one group ate three main meals—breakfast, lunch and dinner—and three small snacks in between meals. The other group ate a hearty breakfast between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and a filling lunch between noon and 4 p.m.
The two groups then switched for the second three months. The researchers asked the patients not to alter their exercise habits during the duration of the study.

Diabetes study identifies new weight-loss benefits

Heavy people with Type 2 diabetes who lose a modest amount of weight and keep it off get many long-term health benefits, including reduced risk of chronic kidney disease, depression and eye disease, a landmark study has found. They also have better blood sugar control, better quality of life, fewer hospitalizations and take less medication, which reduces medical costs.

The weight loss, however, doesn’t lower their risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

“Weight loss is still important, but the reasons why it is important are different than we thought,” says study chairwoman Rena Wing, a professor of psychiatry and human behavior at Brown University. Wing and other investigators presented their findings this summer at the American Diabetes Association’s annual scientific meeting in Chicago.

“Other short-term studies have shown the benefits of weight loss (for people with diabetes), but this is the first large, long-term trial examining a diverse set of health benefits,” says Tim Church, director of preventive medicine research at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge.

Almost 26 million U.S. children and adults have diabetes. There are two major forms: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 accounts for 90 percent to 95 percent of cases. Diabetes can lead to heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, foot and leg amputations and blindness.
